Hale

Hale is one of the OPM rock bands to have relentlessly zoomed to stardom since 2005 with the release of their chart-topping single “The Day You Said Goodnight” coming from their self-titled debut album. The band consists of Champ Lui Pio (guitar and vocals), Roll Martinez (guitars), Sheldon Gellada (bass) and Omnie Saroca (drums) and according to the band they never expected hysterical success after being together as Hale for barely a year. The band was formed supposedly just to be a means for the members to express themselves through music but fate had a different plan for them.

Success after success followed the four-piece rock band as they received praises from music fanatics all over the Philippines. And because of their unique sound, Hale spawned a new pop rock genre called “melodrama”.

After the achievement of their debut album “Hale” and their sophomore album ”Twilight” where they sprung hit singles such as “The Day You Said Goodnight”, “Toll Gate”, “Blue Sky”, “Waltz”, “Hide and Seek”, and “Shooting Star” the band decided to risk everything they worked hard for and hibernate in order to regain inspiration for their music. “There was a time when we were at the point of exhaustion. It was just too much that our friendship and performance were suffering. It [became] obvious back then that we needed to slow down and rejuvenate. That triggered the decision to lay low,” according to Hale front man Champ Lui Pio.

In 2008, the band finally came back to the OPM scene with a newfound passion and it is definitely seen in their 3rd installment, “Above, Over and Beyond”. According to the band, this is the album that is closest to their hearts since it took ten months to make. New inspiration showed in this album since Hale’s sound took a different turn when it came to their lyrics and arrangement. This time it’s less “melodrama” and more uplifting and inspiring.

After a long hiatus, Hale also became involved with social issues and wanted to help out in their own little way by organizing beneficial concerts. Thus Treehouse productions was born.

Rejuvenated and more inspired, Hale is definitely back in the OPM scene. They have already released two hit singles from their 3rd studio album (Above, Over and Beyond) - “Pitong Araw” and “Leap of Faith”. There’s no doubt that this band has a lot in store for us.
