Coldplay

The guys of Coldplay started to form the group when they were just students at University College London. The band is composed of Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman and Will Champion, who all have the same music influences such as U2, R.E.M. and Radiohead.

The band rose to fame with their single Yellow, which is from their debut album Parachutes. It instantly soared to # 1 on the UK Albums Chart. It got so popular that it was even nominated for the Mercury Prize in 2000. Aside from that, it won Best Alternative Music Album during the 2002 Grammy Awards.

After getting the public’s attention, things got even better for the band since their follow up album A Rush of Blood to the Head won numerous awards including NME’s Album of the Year. Once again, they grabbed the Best Alternative Music Album during the Grammy Awards in 2003. Included in the record was Clocks, which earned them another Grammy for Record of the Year. In My Place and The Scientist were also well-received.

In 2004, the band got out of the spotlight after constant touring and just worked on their third album X & Y. They released it in June 2005. Its lead single was “Speed of Sound”, and it was followed by “Fix You” and “Talk”. Eventhough X & Y wasn’t as successful as Parachutes, it still received a lot of positive reviews.

The group started to take on a new direction as they made their fourth record, Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends which showed a different musical style. It was evident in the lead single off the album -Violet Hill. Violet Hill was followed by the title track, Viva La Vida that became a hot digital download.
